PROGRESS: Program for Robotics Outreach on Gender and Racial Equity in School and Society
OUTREACH

Picture

The Program for Robotics Outreach on Gender and Racial Equity in School and Society (PROGRESS) was founded and directed by Prof. Hao Zhang with the mission of promoting the HCRobotics Lab's ability to pursue its goals of high-quality robotics and CS outreach and education in a way that serves the needs of a diverse and inclusive society.

I am a student representative for outreach at HCR Lab, providing lab tours, educating the public on the benefits of robotics technology to society, providing robot demonstrations, workshops in summer camps, and inspiring K-12 students to pursue careers in robotics and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.

Google Explore CSR Hidden Talents
MENTORING

I have mentored undergraduates from underrepresented groups and motivated and encouraged them to pursue CS research. This mentorship came through combined efforts of Google's Explore CSR program and Mines Hidden Talents. My mentoring experience involved introducing research to these undergraduates, sharing my understanding of the process of applying to graduate school, journey through graduate school, and choosing a career path, making graduate school a lot less daunting and more tangible path to pursue.

Mentor to Students

I have been a research mentor to several graduates and undergraduates working in the Human-Centered Robotics Lab, helping them with complex concepts, understanding the various problems, and getting started with research. I have always encouraged and enjoyed the brainstorming sessions with my mentees.

Teaching Experience
TEACHING

CSCI442: Operating Systems, Fall 2018

  • I was the sole teaching assistant for Operating System (77 Students), a required course for all graduate degrees in the fall of 2018, taught by professor Hao Zhang.
  • Assisted in taking classes for students, grading assignments and holding weekly office hours. This course covers topics like process communication and synchronization, resource management, virtual memory, file systems, and networking and distributed systems..

CSCI573: Human-Centered Robotics, Spring 2017

  • I was the sole Teaching Assistant for Human-Centered Robotics (25 Students), an optional robotics course taught in the spring of 2017 by professor Hao Zhang.
  • Assisted in teaching students how robots perceive and react to human behaviors through learning and 3D perception, utilizing ROS, Python, C++, and OpenCV.
  • Graded students on both projects and homeworks based on automated python scripts.
